2010 FIFA World Cup Scramble of Soccer Uniforms

February 11th, 2010 by admin

With less than a year to go for the 2010 FIFA World Cup football fans around the world are restless and can’t wait to hear the first whistle blow! After all, it’s a four year wait before one gets to see world class football that’s pure magic! And the countdown has begun. This World Cup will be the 19th tournament and it’s all set to take place in South Africa. So, keep the 11th of June to the 11th of July aside for some adrenalin pumping action!

It will be the first time that the World Cup is being hosted by South Africa. Nine cities across the country are being readied in terms of infrastructure and operations. Thousands of fans and tourists are expected to descend on South Africa to watch their favorite teams take centre stage in their national team uniforms. Overall, an estimated six billion people will watch the matches worldwide.

The CEO of the World Cup Organizing Committee, Dr Danny Jordaan admits that it’s been a tough road at times, but he finds inspiration in the men and women who have worked tirelessly to ensure they go from the planning to the playing stage. “When you look at them and you look in their eyes you get a sense they’ve all decided, ‘we won’t let you down, we won’t let the country down’, and that they’re going to make this work,” says Jordaan. He hopes that when the final whistle has blown, Nelson Mandela and the many other freedom fighters will be smiling in the realization that the World Cup was delivered by both black and white coming together, that all their efforts and sacrifices were not in vain…

This World Cup’s mascot is Zakumi, a cute leopard with green hair! He was born on the 16th of June 1994, the year that apartheid ended. The ‘Za’ in Zakumi is the international abbreviation for South Africa and ‘kumi’ means ten in many African languages. It also means ‘come here’ in some southern African languages. The green and yellow colors of the mascot stand for the host nation’s flag and playing strip. Zakumi’s designer, Andries Odendaal, explains that the animal’s green hair was designed to provide camouflage on the football pitch.

With the qualifiers taking place, the heat is already on! There’s been a global rush to apply for tickets to the 2010 World Cup. Bets are on as to who’ll make it and who’ll be left out. Some traditional favorites are already facing a tough challenge to qualify!

Putting aside relocation rumors, resettling controversies and preparation deadlines, the first FIFA World Cup in the African continent is all set to take your breath away! So, get your custom soccer jerseys out and get into the spirit of things! If you don’t you’re your favorite teams soccer jersey, it’s high time you picked one up or you might not get any later! After all, we’re talking about the World Cup here and fans are seriously loyal when it comes to supporting their favorite team!

Soccer – Really The World Game

January 24th, 2010 by admin

Soccer: What terrific memories, thoughts and excitement that word generates. At this moment the world is in the throes of the World Championship of Football – yes, I call it football, because I believe it to be the only true “foot” ball game. Just imagine if you will the number of people who are tuning in to watch their country – if they have qualified, compete on the stage of the biggest sporting tournament the world has to offer. The great thing is that all nations hold some interest in this spectacle. It is something tangible from South America to Australia. From Asia through Europe to the United States.

Imagine if you will the passion of supporters of these nations, when they score a goal to either give them the advantage in a particular match, or even more thrilling the winning goal in the World Cup final itself!

OK, now we’re in the mood of things, take into consideration that there are people on this planet who have little or no interest in this event or the build up to it. The folk to whom I refer, are those that pursue the pleasure of the other “football” codes on offer in this diverse world of ours.

Let me explain: We have a few other codes of football played worldwide. The United States have their own particular brand and in other countries Rugby League and Rugby Union are followed with a degree of passion, the latter reaching euphoric status in countries like New Zealand. There is another form of football played in Australia called Australian Rules football affectionately known as “footy”, although I tend to dismiss this game as somewhat of a novelty sport, because it has never really been played worldwide and can’t be compared favourably to the other codes as a spectacle, mainly because of lack of foresight from administrators. That doesn’t mean to say that it doesn’t have a strong following.

Let me say this first of all. Whichever of the ball games is your cup of tea, fine. I can live with that. It’s just the title of your sport that I find somewhat odd. I have heard criticism of football – the real football I mean – making jibes about the ballet-type heading prowess of some of the players and the acting talents of some of its professional participants and, to a degree I cede to that.

But, facts are facts, irrefutable and concrete. This sport is the only football code that encourages the use and skill with the feet for its players. The word, my friends, is “football”.

In all the other codes mentioned above, ninety per cent of the time the ball is held in the players’ hands. OK so they kick it occasionally – very occasionally in the US version. Incidentally, there could be an argument for not calling that particular code “football” at all when you take into consideration they only call someone on to the playing arena as a specialist to actually kick the ball to either start a game or add “bonus” scoring points to a team’s total.

Enough is enough. I could go on forever. Don’t think we could ever get to a court of law with this one, because everyone will have their own opinion about their own favourite, but I reckon I’ve given a good argument for Soccer being the true and only Football.

Disney Soccer in the World

December 18th, 2009 by admin

Disney Soccer is one the best Disney sports games ever. Having our beloved Disney characters available for play, the soccer teams in the game are captained by Disney’s most beloved characters like Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc. This game reaches out to many genres. It can be for those old-school lovers of Disney who grew up following them or even for the little kids who are just beginning to love these characters. Nonetheless, this game tackles a lot that can be entertaining. Soccer is already interesting and fun, what more if it could be mixed with the characters from cartoons that we all got to know very well through the years.

Though Konami, the provider of Disney Sports series doesn’t have a very impressive record, they have produced a very enjoyable and well-conceptualized game in the form of Disney Soccer. There are many possible scenarios in the game that makes it all the more fun to play. There is a season mode, challenge mode and an exhibition mode to choose from in the game.

With all this in play, it creates a very fun and exciting game. With its great game play, almost everyone can win and have fun. Though the Disney characters look easy with regards to their looks, the game is much interesting with their hard-nosed style of play and the attitude of helping you win. Any soccer fan won’t have a hard time picking up the mechanics of the game and the buttons are just easy to get a grip with. This game is definitely one of the must haves of any soccer fanatic.

Women Soccer and the World

May 12th, 2008 by admin

Women soccer is so popular today. Soccer fanatics are getting a heightened awareness that women can definitely play the sport. Although soccer is a contact sport dominated by men, women football players too can generate the same level of excitement and fun which soccer enthusiasts are looking for in a game.

Men are physically stronger due to the fact that their bodies are made up of muscles while the woman’s body is primarily made up of adipose tissues or fat. Such a fact makes men acquire better agility and strength in playing the most loved game in the world today. But playing soccer does not require much of gender. The more essential factor in playing the game is the skill in handling and maneuvering the ball. Soccer is about speed and strategy to score a point and not mere strength to wrestle on the field.

Stamina, endurance and strength are some of the key requirements for a soccer player, and women can have these too if they observe proper training and self discipline. Women soccer leagues are increasingly getting more popular. Some of which are Toppserien in Norway, Women’s Bundesliga in Germany and Austria, W-League, Superliga Femenina in Spain, and the Women’s United Soccer Association in the United States .

Though soccer has a woman’s division, it is not as popular as the male soccer league. The emergence of soccer leagues dedicated to women would be enough proof to say that the world of contact sport is not just for the male. Women too can be at their best and thrive in a world where men are considered dominant.

How Often is the World Cup of Soccer Held?

April 28th, 2008 by admin

The World Cup is soccer’s biggest stage – it is the championship of the most widely played sport in the all of the world. The talk, preparation and qualifying for each incarnation of the World Cup tournament seems to be going on all the time – but the final of soccer’s biggest tournament only take place during a one month period every four years.

Many fans, clubs and organizations argue that the World Cup tournament itself, as well as the sport of soccer would benefit greatly from increasing the frequency of soccer’s world championship tournament. Some present very valid points and cite that other major sporting events that hold tournaments on an international level are capable of organizing those tournaments once every year.

There is no doubt that the World Cup’s allure wouldn’t be hurt by holding the tournament every three or even every two years. It would probably increase soccer’s international popularity and would certainly do well to increase the tournaments revenue potential – holding the tournament every two years would, in effect, double the amount of revenue created by the biggest international sports tournament. Reducing the number of years between World Cup tournaments would most likely also allow the qualifying team’s players to be more recognizable to fans – the players would be in front of the fans and on a big stage potentially twice as many times during their careers. This could potentially make fans feel more connected and attached to the players on the World Cup teams and possibly even cause an increase in the amount of people who tune in to watch the World Cup finals.

Why Every Four Years?

World Cup purists argue that every four years is ideal for the tournament and it is relatively unlikely that any change in World Cup frequency will actually occur – at least within the near future. It does take quite a bit of preparation to get ready for a month long tournament which draws in teams from more than thirty countries and fans from probably more nations than that.

The host country is voted on and selected long before the tournament will actually be held and the lengths to which the organizers go to ensure that everything is not just prepared, but perfect for each World Cup tournament are truly exhaustive. Other major sports tournaments may host players and fans from all over the world but few, if any can match the sheer magnitude of the World Cup tournament.

More than 200 countries will vie for a spot in the final phase of the World Cup tournament in 2010 to be held in South Africa, and of those more than 200, only thirty one teams will make the cut to appear in the World Cup (the South African team receives an automatic bye to compete as the host nation, making the total team count an even thirty two.) Many believe that trying to cram all of the qualifying and all of the necessary preparation into a shorter time period would hurt the quality and the overall success of the tournament – and that could very well be true.

The only other sporting events that are truly comparable (even bigger than the World Cup), are the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, which are both also held once every four years due to all of the preparation of the destination and the athletes who are to be involved.

Holding the tournament only once every four years only adds to the majesty of the World Cup and contributes to the sheer desire and determination of the many teams involved to first make the cut to the finals and then compete for the prestigious title of World Cup Champion.

Soccer World Ranking – The FIFA Way

March 18th, 2008 by admin

Many have been curious how FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) is working out on the soccer world ranking. It is a form of finding out on the game results. A ranking is based on the success of the team during the matches.

In the beginning, the association based the results over the eight years, but in 2006 they have changed the statistics to four years which is more evident and effective. There were criticisms that the eight year period is not accurate and it is such a long process. That’s why they made a final decision to reconstruct the rules. In this year’s soccer world ranking Spain made it to the first spot.

Along its results they have also made some important awards like Best Team of The Year and Best Mover of the Year which adds interest and effectiveness. Usually those two special awards were based on the top three highest in the rank. This is good information for the players for them to know their standings and how well their team played.

In getting the rank there is a certain formula that the FIFA followed and this is by the average on the points, status and strength of a certain team. In order for a team to hit number one, they should gain more points, less violations and an unending strength. It is indeed tough to hit it since there are a number of teams who are part of the association. Most teams that get in the mark are Brazil, Italy and Germany.

Soccer Trophies – The FIFA World Cup Trophy

March 10th, 2008 by admin

Soccer trophies are used as a reward to soccer teams who have one specific event in the sport. Trophies are awarded in amateur or professional level. These trophies serve as a symbolic representation of the achievement of a team in the sport. Trophies are usually designed to signify an image representing the sport and also had an engraved name of the winning team which sometimes bears the date of the event.

The FIFA World Cup trophy is among the prestigious award in the whole world being given to champions of the FIFA World Cup.

In 1946 the first FIFA World Cup trophy is called the Jules Rimet Cup which was named after the founder of World Cup The trophy was designed by Abel Lafleur who is a French sculptor. The prestigious trophy was made of gold combined with elegant stones. It features the figure of the goddess of victory that is holding an octagon shaped cup. Uruguay was the first team to receive the trophy when they won the World Cup in 1930.

In 1970 the new trophy was designed by Silvio Gazzaniga an Italian artist in which it was used during the FIFA World Cup in 1974. It was awarded to West Germany. The trophy bears the word FIFA World Cup engraved at the base. At the bottom of the trophy is the name of the winning country. The base already consists of nine champions of the World Cup as of year 2006.

Soccer trophies remain a symbolic award to merit and recognize the hard earned winning of a true champion of the sport soccer.
